Ein großes interdisziplinäres deutsches Forschungsprogramm widmet sich gegenwärtig der Erforschung der Lebens- und Überlebensbedingungen in
Megacities der Dritten Welt. Eine Reihe von Forschungsprojekten von Geographen, Raumplanern, Gesundheitswissenschaftlern und Ökonomen untersuchen dies am Beispiel der Hauptstadt Bangladeschs, Dhaka, einer der am
schnellsten wachsenden Städte der Welt. Vier aktuelle Projekte werden vorgestellt und diskutiert; dabei geht es um informelle Siedlungen, die
Ernährungssicherung und Gesundheitssituation der Bevölkerung sowie informelle Organisationsformen in der Wirtschaft in der Megacity.
The Role of Informal Arrangements in Everyday Life and Economic Organization. Case Studies from Dhaka, Bangladesh
A large interdisciplinary research program investigating life and survival in megacities of the third world is currently being
carried out in Germany. A number of research projects by geographers, planners, public health experts, and economists
focus on Dhaka, Bangladesh‘s capital city, one of the world’s fastest-growing cities. Four projects in progress will be
presented and discussed; these involve informal settlements, securing the food supply, and the health situation of the population, as well as informal economic organization in the megacity.
